Youth Programs
For more than 20 years, The career Counseling Center has provided
opportunities for junion and senior high girls from the Hartford
Region's public schools to partcipate in academic programs to
increase or improve their academic performance and employment
potential.
Project Crecer ("to grow") provides
academics and subsidized work experience during the summer. Although
initially this program was developed to serve young Latino women,
it has grown to include all young women in the Hartford area.
Participation is based on income level required by the funder.
Many women, who participated in Project Crecer years ago have
returned to serve as speakers and mentors to current groups of
participating students. Project Crecer participants have an excellent
record of staying in school, completing high school and pursuing
higher education. Many former participants have become professionals
such as teachers, attorneys and social workers.
We welcome professionals to visit our program and discuss their
careers and educational background. We also are always looking
for new internship placements. If you are a professional with
an interest in encouraging young women in their professional aspirations
or a business willing to take on a gifted and capable intern,
call us and plan on visiting! 860-768-5619.
